Greater biodiversity in freshwater streams does not necessarily translate to enhanced ecosystem functioning, according to research reported by Phys.org.

Ecological management and conservation strategies frequently presume that elevated species diversity strengthens biological and environmental processes. However, the findings indicate that higher biodiversity within stream habitats does not consistently ensure or drive effective ecosystem performance.
