Nintendo Switch Sports Resort has launched with 12 primary sports, featuring multiple modes, single-player progression, and open-island exploration across Wuhu Island, according to a recent review and ranking published by Polygon.

Polygon evaluated the lineup by how effectively each sport translates to motion inputs, finding that more complex athletic activities struggled the most. Basketball and Volleyball were criticized for relying heavily on telegraphed cues and rigid setups that interrupt match flow, while traditional Tennis suffered from looser motion detection compared to Table Tennis. Polygon also noted that Golf was hindered by inconsistent control accuracy, particularly during putting, and Boxing occasionally faltered when registering hooks and uppercuts.

By contrast, simpler and newly introduced sports earned much higher praise. Table Tennis stood out for tight timing and fast rallies, while Archery effectively utilized two controllers to simulate drawing a bow against shifting wind conditions. Novel additions like Thumb Wrestling provided quick tactical depth through minimal one-handed inputs.

The collection also incorporates three free-roaming leisure activities set across Wuhu Island: Prop Plane, Power Cruising, and Skateboarding. Power Cruising turns the Joy-Con into twisting handlebars for watercraft, while Skateboarding has players drag the controller across a flat surface to push off, tilt to steer, and lift to jump across rails and jumps scattered around the island.
