Casio has temporarily taken select features of its Casio Watches companion application offline following the discovery of a critical security vulnerability within PHP, the server-side programming language utilized across the service’s infrastructure.
The Japanese manufacturer initiated the precautionary shutdown on October 21 to safeguard user records, detailing the measure in a security advisory the following day. Casio emphasized that the underlying flaw is an industry-wide PHP issue rather than a platform-specific breach, confirming that investigators have found no indications of data leaks or unauthorized access to user accounts.
Under normal conditions, the Casio Watches application pairs with compatible Bluetooth timepieces to facilitate automatic time synchronization and manage device settings, with available features differing depending on the specific model. Because Casio’s public notice did not enumerate which exact services were disabled, the full operational impact on individual watch models remains unspecified, though the company noted that not all connected functions are necessarily out of commission.
Casio issued an apology for the service disruption and stated that engineering teams are working to restore normal app functionality as quickly as possible. The company has not yet published an estimated timetable for when the suspended services will return.
